New media artist and animator Marjan Moghaddam will be showing several new animations during Frieze Art Fair Week in New York City, two animations at Select Art Fair, as part of the Starry Night Exposure program, and one at the Separation Anxiety Installation at Cutlog Art Fair curated by IFAC/Wallplay. Ms. Moghaddam’s high fidelity, visually stunning and cinematic animations employ Motion Capture of dance and martial arts applied to her signature style 3d characters, which are then staged in elaborate painted scenes and graphic compositions. Blending poetry with social media style text, her projects incorporate written and pictorial narratives. At Select Art Fair, she will be showing “David & Goliath Still Can’t Fight”, a mesmerizing and thought-provoking discourse on the nature of political revolutions, citing Marx and Picketty alongside computer theory, while exploring the myth as a virus of civilization. In the visually seductive “Venus and Her Muses”, she envisions a Venus and her harem of hot muses with a sexting session, in a feminist re- appropriation that loosely references various Mannerist classical groupings of muses. At Cutlog, she will be showing “Sometimes Up, Sometimes Down”, a metaphysical discourse on the premise of collapse and recovery, built around a knockout punch.
Ms. Moghaddam is primarily engaged in rethinking form for painting in the post millennial era, in a manner that reflects our hybrid digital and physical life. Working with still and animated projects that she describes as digital paintings, she defines a pictorial space that is cinematic, 3-dimensional and graphic, with text and special effects. In contrast to the over-commercialization of new media, her works insist on a deeper dialog in which global, personal, political, technological, and philosophical dimensions interact poetically and powerfully in sublime narratives.
Ms. Moghadam is an Iranian born, American artist who works primarily with computer-based technologies; she lives and works in Brooklyn. Her pioneering and award-winning works have been exhibited widely, funded by organizations such as Brooklyn Arts Council/NY Department of Cultural Affairs and the Rockefeller Fund. Her works have additionally been exhibited in international festivals and curated programs of the Armory Show and Art Basel Miami. She was selected for the prestigious Siggraph Computer Animation Festival and Computer Art Gallery a total of 5 times, including the “Siggraph 30 Years of Computer Art Gallery” and was the featured artist for the launching of Dotcom Gallery and International Forum for the Digital Arts, the first internet fine art gallery in 1996.

Wallplay and IFAC are proud to announce Separation Anxiety, an ongoing campaign of collaborative exhibitions that discuss art and the fine line which bridges technology and society in the super-modern age. Affirming itself as a juggernaut, Separation Anxiety is the exhibition that never ends.
Award-winning, digital artist and animator Marjan Moghaddam will be showing 2 pieces in Separation Anxiety, a group exhibition curated by the International Fine Arts Consortium at Wallplay. For the exhibition, Ms. Moghaddam will be showing one of her digital paintings, Floodplain, and premiering a new animation, “Sometimes Up, Sometimes Down”. The show opens during the Armory Arts weekend on Saturday March 8th, 7-10pm, at Wallplay, 118 Orchard Street (corner of Delancey), in the Lower East Side. #Separationanxiety, #Wallplay, #IFAC.
Marjan Moghaddam works with 3d animation and Motion Capture of improvised dance, Martial Arts and gesticulation. Her distinctive style employs a 3d CG Cubist and Futuristic form of figuration blended with computer-generated textures, fractals, and scientific images (NASA and USGS). Her paintings are additionally altered using sonic sculpting of visuals through audio- triggering of various parameters. The lush, cinematic, postmillenial digital paintings, which she creates as still and time based media, also include a unique narratology that blends text in the form of social media style posts with storytelling and poetry. Her award-winning projects employ proprietary computer-generative techniques alongside artistic ones. For Separation Anxiety she will be showing “Floodplain”, a still digital painting, and premiering “Sometimes up and Sometimes Down”, a Motion-Captured, 3d animation with a score by Kyle Bobby Dunn. The primary thematic premise for these works is a heroic, political, global, cathartic, and expressionistic premise in which imagined worlds of great monumentality mirror a collective and individual zeitgeist that is emerging out of our hybrid machine and human paradigm.

In addition to her Fine Arts work, Ms. Moghaddam is also a respected commercial artist and animator who has worked for clients such as NBC, HBO, MTV, Lucent Technologies, and Ernst & Young LLP amongst others. She is originally from Iran and immigrated to the US in 1979, and is a Full Professor of Computer Graphics and Animation at the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University.

Ms. Moghaddam will be exhibiting her “Shot in Iran” Digital Print, which explores her experiences of living through the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, and her subsequent life in the US, embedded as text in the large format print. The piece uses 3d Computer Graphics, digital and analog painting, motion capture of dance, photos, calligraphy (English and Persian), text, graffiti, special effects, and audio- triggered deformations. Ms Moghaddam is an award-winning and renowned computer artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, and is originally from Iran.
